Kayaking or River Rafting - Gold River Lower Canyon
Advanced kayakers, guided intermediates only.
Conditions of the river: Class 3 and 3+ and one Class 4 boulder drop, medium volume but technical. At high water Class 3+ and 4+ with big water drop
Length of run: 5.8 kilometres; 1 to 2 hours
Season: Year round following rain; best after runoff, May and June is best after snow melt and spring showers.
What to expect: The biggest water boating experience on the Island, the Big Drop with a few surfing waves and one or two good holes. Super easy access to a great day on the river.

Facilities: A short distance to Gold River and all its conveniences. Gold River Camp-site offers pit toilets and room to park and pitch your tent, sandy beach, shade trees, picnic tables, and fireplaces at Big Bend Park.
Guidelines: Short full run, playing is mandatory, prominent waterfall spouting from the right cliff and a couple of large gravel bars ahead. Big waves up to 1.5 meters high, exciting. If you have reached orange cones hanging over the river you have gone too far. Morning is the best time to run this part of the river as the sun reaches the canyon.
Access to Put in and Take Out: From Gold River head south on Highway 28; travel 9.2 kilometres past the bridge in town to the take out, turn left into a large parking area. Put in; from Gold River 2.7 kilometers upstream from the take-out to the right into a lay-by and view. Then another 2.7 kilometers more to Gold River Campsite and put in.
