Kayaking or River Rafting - Nimpkish River 2
All levels of kayakers’, canoeists and rafters.
Conditions of the river: Class 2, short Class 2+ rapid and flat water.
Length of run: 16.9 kilometres of river and .5 kilometres of lake, estimated time 3 hours.
Travel 7.8 kilometres or 10 minutes from the highway then gravel logging road for 10 kilometres.
Season: Year round, best in October through June, rain and snow melt fed.
What to expect: The Iron Mine Rapid is the climax of this run, a series of standing waves perhaps six or seven with nothing else in the way., a safe place for kayakers’ to begin learning the art. The river is clean of sweepers and the channel is unimpeded. A scenic tour, limestone caverns carved over slow deep pools, a broad gravel bar and sandy beaches.
Topographical maps required: 1:50,000 Woss Lake 92L/2 and Nimpkish 92L/7
Facilities: Woss Lake camp ground offers picnic tables, pit toilets and fire rings free.
Guidelines: Large volume river, a short run down Kaipit Creek, then a third of the way to a bend you can see Iron Mine Rapid. Waves can be 1 meter high, scouting prior to running might be a good idea. Usually a languid stream however high water volumes have been recorded, usually very few obstructions.
