At the Whiskey Point Scubad Diving site you will find a profusion of pink Strawberry Anemones and Purple Algae encrusted walls, with a wide diversity of Invertebrates. Amongst the massive boulders on the bottom (about 90 feet or 27 meters depending on the tides), there lies a multitude of divergent characters of rockfish, and if you are lucky a few large Lingcod and a resident Wolf Eel or two.
Much of the colour is displayed in shallower water, however don’t miss the bottom which offers a unique and interesting scuba experience between the massive boulders strewn about.
The water is clearest in the winter months because of the temperature, however in the summer months there is a lush forest of mature bull kelp that adds to the mystery of the area, this kelp serves to protect a population of Greenlings, Perch, Red Irish Lords and a number of smaller species of fish.
The area of concern on this cold water dive, is the current. Whiskey Point has been known for its massive tidal action, which has been measured at over 12 knots, this strong current can carry you way beyond your point of exit if you are not careful.
Take care, talk to the local divers, be prepared and have fun.
